Mr. Bean Dead Rumor...
...not true.
Rumors that British actor Rowan Atkinson, who is best known for his role as Mr. Bean, had died was quickly debunked as a hoax on Sunday, February 26, but not before it went viral on Twitter.
The Internet hoax started after a Filipino, Michael Robert Meras, posted the message: "RIP Rowan Atkinson" in his Twitter account. His single post quickly became viral as Twitter users used the hashtag RIP Rowan Atkinson to express their condolences.
Meras later said the post was a joke that went viral.
"I never thought my tweet about RIP Rowan Atkinson would be that viral, it has gone worldwide. It was just a joke. Galit na sa akin ngayon ang buong mundo, baka ma-ireport na Twitter ko Hay! Gagawa ako ng Twitter kong bago if ever mabura siya dahil sa reports," he said in his Facebook account.
He later explained that he saw the "RIP Rowan Atkinson" message on Facebook and decided to repost in on Twitter. He added: "I'm so over it, let's move on :)"
